Christmas Arrangements

The following are the arrangements for the Mother and Baby Institutions Payment Scheme from Monday 22nd December 2025 to Friday 2nd January 2026 inclusive. Phoneline opening hours:

The Payment Scheme Office will not issue Notices of Determination to applicants after Friday 12th December 2025. We will resume sending Notices of Determination on Monday 5th January 2026. A Notice of Determination is the decision on your application, or the outcome of your review or appeal request.

You may receive other types of correspondence from us e.g. an acknowledgement regarding your application, or we may call you regarding your application until Friday 19th December 2025.

If you have accepted an offer from the Payment Scheme, by returning your acceptance forms before 11th December 2025, and everything is in order, you will receive your payment by Friday 19th December 2025. Otherwise, payments will start to issue again on the week commencing 5th January 2026.

In addition, An Post have notified the Payment Scheme Office that there will be no post on Monday 29 December 2025, this means that items posted on the 24 December may be delayed.

There are three different scenarios for how someone can apply to the Scheme: on their own behalf, as a support person, or as a personal representative. Please read the information below, and click on the relevant button to start your application.

Applying on your own behalf

Use this option if you spent time in a scheduled institution and are applying to the Scheme on your own behalf, including with assistance from a Decision-Making Assistant or Co-Decision Maker (if you have such an arrangement in place under the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015).

Applying as a support person, who has a formal arrangement in place to act on behalf of someone who may be eligible for the Scheme

Use this option if you are applying for someone who may be eligible for the Scheme and have a formal arrangement in place to act on their behalf. These formal arrangements are:

  • Decision-Making Representative appointed by the court under the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015
  • Ward of Court as the court appointed committee of the ward
  • Enduring Power of Attorney under the Powers of Attorney Act, 1996
  • Enduring Power of Attorney under the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015
  • A similar legal arrangement from another State

Applying as a personal representative

Use this option if you are applying as a personal representative, on behalf of the estate of a deceased person who died on or after 13th January 2021, which is the date of the Taoiseach’s apology to survivors and former residents.
